Morning Birdwatching
The morning after Christmas is generally one spent in recovery and breaking into the more complex or not-quite-assembled presents. While Santa and his associates were very, very good to me this year, my presents did not require assembly. And most were kitchen oriented, with a decidedly Italian lean--so expect diatribes or proclamations regarding my experiments with my new risotto pan and pizza stone in the near future. But not having anything to break out and play with immediately this morning afforded me the opportunity to sit and do nothing but stare out the window, which in Connecticut provides a bit more landscape and nature than the views from New Jersey or Manhattan apartments. So far this morning I have seen numerous Black-capped Chickadee, two Blue Jays, a Red Tailed Hawk, and what I believe were a mated pair of American Kestrels--I thought it was a small Osprey at first but then I saw the second one, and I don't believe the Osprey mate for life as the Kestrel does, so there you go. Not rare sightings by any means, but not something I am often in a place to see, let alone have the time to stop and watch long enough to notice.
